Using Solar Renewable Energy
Extracting free energy from the Sun has been one of mankind’s dreams for generations and now, with the latest advances in solar technology, that energy is now available to the ordinary home owner. Solar renewable energy can be used for generating electricity, heating water, cooking, garden lighting and even powering vehicles.
In all likelihood, you’ve benefited from solar renewable energy without even being aware of it. Some traffic signs use solar power to keep them working when other power sources can’t reach them.

You can create a basic solar water heating unit for your home using some black plastic piping and a small pump. The heated water can then be circulated to a pool or under-floor heating system.

Solar power turns sunlight either into heat (for example in a solar water heater or solar water purification system) or directly into electricity (using solar photovoltaic cells). Since the sun shines every day (even through the clouds), solar energy is an excellent renewable energy resource.
The list of materials needed is quite mundane, most of which you’ll already have in your workshop – glue, silicone caulking, plastic panels, fiberboard, solder, wiring, screws and paint. The only other material you’ll need to source are pre-tabbed solar cells and diodes.
